THE GHOST MONDAYS
I have dreaded the idea of this SIT-AT-HOME on Mondays since August 9th,2021. Unfortunately, Monday which is known for being the first day of a productive week is now the last day of the week. It is known that the reason for this lockdown is to let out our disappointment known to the FG by staying indoors. But on Mondays? The outcome of it all seems to bring more danger than peace.
Our Economic Activities including schools are being affected by the lockdown. Students and pupils are behind schedule, as if it’s not enough to have students (Federal Universities) to go on strike. Market places are more exaggerated because Mondays are the best days to reveal the latest and freshest stocks/products. This has led to the increase of foods and transportation and this must go on till the release of the IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The officials of IPOB should understand that denying the south easterners of their daily lives is a great punishment to us. Rather than thinking of ways to bend President Muhammadu Buhari, they should think of the circumstances this is causing to NDI-IGBO. As Nigerians, we are facing an immense infrastructure development under Buhari’s administration, but as Biafrans, we are facing double of what our brotherly states are going through. This is not the Biafra we expected, it seems like we are going back to the days of our fathers and grandfathers; the days when starvation and fear hovered around.
The people are scared for fear of not seeing the end of the day. It's like everyone is body present and their ghost are out of their body. Lives have been lost out of carelessness and fear of the unknown. We claim to be the lovers of freedom; but deep within us, we feel caged. Brothers killing brothers; we've allowed anger and greed take the best of us. And this makes me wonder what exactly we are fighting for. If we cannot take care of ourselves nor express love and understanding amongst ourselves, then what is the point of it all?
Our fathers and brothers of the IPOB clan should put on their thinking cap and investigate with consideration what this is doing to us. We should remember the stories of our forefathers. We should recall the challenges they faced in those days. Are we to let history repeat itself?
